The Green Investment Scheme guarantees that funds from the sale of surplus assigned amount units (AAU) will be allocated to "green" projects. The scope of co-financed undertakings is broad -- from the enhancement of energy efficiency, through the promotion of low-emission solutions (including clean coal technologies), to renewable energy sources. The financing of related research and educational operation is also envisaged.

Poland has already signed numerous contracts on the sale of AAU - with both public and private entities.
