Malaysia expects that 70% of its inhabitants will be living in urban environments by 2020. In the 10th Malaysia Plan, the Greater Kuala Lumpur/ Klang Valley (GKL/ KV) has been selected as part of the 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) in an effort to make Malaysia a high income economy through productivity growth. Recognizing this, the Sustainability Science Research Cluster UM has chosen "Eco-Resilient Cities" as the main theme for this year Grand Challenge Research Program.
